How this moving abroad cost calculator works

Moving abroad with kids costs money in two ways. First there is the cash you need before and just after the move: visas, flights, shipping, a deposit on a new home and setting it up. Then there are the monthly costs of living in your new country.

The calculator adds your up-front costs, a 10% cushion for things that go wrong, and a safety net of a few months' living costs. That total is the amount we'd suggest having ready before you go. If an employer is paying for parts of the move, tick them and they come off the total.
